Technology!
As most of you know Technology has become a major part of your student’s daily life. Whether it is surfing the internet, playing video games, listening to music or using another form of technology today’s generation is use to obtaining knowledge/entertainment at an extremely fast rate. If students are using so many different sources of technology outside of the classroom why not challenge their minds with the use of technology within the classroom? There are quite a few different technology instruments that we will be using throughout the course of the year: Apple computers, Smart Boards, clickers, video recorders and IPod software.
With the Apple computers, that are provided by the school, we will be conducting research on many different projects. Although students may learn how to quickly pull up information/answers on the computer they do not always know how to make sure that the information they are receiving is trustworthy. We will be learning, in class, how to check to see if a website is valid, with accurate information. This feeds into writing papers and being able to cite them correctly. YouTube is another part of computer based activities that we will be conducting.
Smart boards are highly advanced projectors. They combine many different functions and are useful in everyday teaching. We will be giving presentations using the Smart board as well as working out every day in class problems up on the board so that everyone can participate. One of the many advantages of having a smart board is the fact that all the work that is done on it can be saved to the computer. Due to this fact I will easily be able to send you the work that was done within class on any particular day. I will be using this for the back to school presentation so that each and every one of you can mess around with the different functions to become more familiar with how today’s generation will be learning and advancing. Clickers, Video recorders and IPod apps will be used randomly throughout the year for things such as quiz taking, filming acting projects and getting study materials sent directly to your student’s IPod.
Technology is a very important part of our world today so I hope to use it to benefit your student’s education. I do believe that old methods still work and should be used as well but my teaching will encompass a delicate balance of both the old and the new way of receiving knowledge. If you have any further question please contact me.
Thanks for your time

Lets Get Started!
Dear Parents,
Before the year begins, and your child comes home with a long list of required school supplies, allow me to share a little about myself with you. My name is Jenna Lyle and this is my first year of teaching at Riverside Elementary. I graduated from Boise State University with a Masters in Elementary Education. Although I received my degree in the great state of Idaho I originate from the good old south. My parents moved my two sisters and I from South Carolina to Idaho Falls when I was six years old. The move was tough, as change usually is, but it forced me to adjust and everything since then has shaped me into the woman I am today. Your child is going through a similar change. One year older with a new classroom full of people whom he/she may not know, a new teacher and on top of that a whole year of new material. I realize that it can be challenging, but I hope to make the transition from second to third grade as smooth as possible. As for my teaching methods, I thought no better way to explain than through My Personal Mission Statement.
When people feel comfortable in a specific setting their minds are more open and alert to listening and retaining information. Trust within a classroom plays a major role in creating a comfort zone. Meaning that students feel confident enough to suggest and oppose answers and voice personal opinion without the fear of ridicule. The aforementioned trust must not only exist between peers but also between adults’ active in the child’s life as well as within him/herself. Being able to form these types of deeply rooted connections leads to sharing ideas and feeding off of one anothers’ thoughts. This essential support system opens doors to; learning about the individual student, what learning style best fits him/her and being able to cater to his/her needs. After the elements of trust, comfort zones and support systems are established. The attempt to create an overall motivating atmosphere for learning starts; which leads to the never ending circle of learning and growing through; creativity, imagination and innovation.
Well, there you have it. Now that you know where I come from, who I am, and what I plan to accomplish, I would love to get to know more about you and your child. I am available to meet in person, talk on the phone (208) 569-1249, email (JennaML7@live.com) or if needed we could even skype. Please feel free to contact me by any means possible from here on out.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you!
Yours Sincerely,
~Jenna Lyle~
